2010 Legislative Priorities

Protect Funding for First Class Pre-K and Child Care

The early years, from conception to age six have the most important influence on brain development and subsequent learning, behavior and health. Protecting state funding for vital programs such as pre-k and child care will remain a top priority for VOICES.

Strengthen Alabama's Graduated Drivers License (GDL) System

VOICES led efforts to enact the first graduated drivers licensing systems in the state of Alabama. Despite passage of the law and many years passed, elevated numbers of teen driver deaths in Alabama persist. A strengthened and more comprehensive GDL system, will not only save the lives of young drivers, but drivers of all ages who travel Alabama's roads and highways.

The 2010 Legislative Session begins January 12, 2010 and must conclude by April 26, 2010. Regular meeting days are Tuesday and Thursday. Committee meetings are held on Wednesdays.

For other legislative information, visit the Alabama State Legislature .

As always, VOICES will continue to review legislation as introduced throughout the session and will take positions as appropriate.
